Growing up, Dr. Winfield always loved science and had a strong drive to help people in his community. In high school, he took a medical mission trip to Uganda, where he spent a couple of weeks setting up clinics and helping the underserved. The appreciation from the community was overwhelming and ultimately what made him decide to pursue a career in the medical field.

Flash forward to his final years of his undergraduate studies, and he went on another mission trip to Ensenada, Mexico with the UCSD Flying Samaritans. He spent time volunteering with both the medical and dental teams and saw how the dental team was able to alleviate pain with tooth extractions and surgeries. Those immediate, life-changing results were what he wanted to be able to do for his patients, which is why he decided to follow his calling to become a dentist.
